IGF Meeting Discusses Artisanal and Small-scale Mining, Tax Base Erosion and Profit Shifting

20 October 2017: Participants at the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) discussed mining challenges and technical advice on overcoming negative impacts during a series of meetings over five days. Challenges related to regulating artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) were addressed in a number of panels. A technical workshop organized by the IGF Secretariat and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on Tax Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) took place on the final day. More.

CFS 44 Raises Concerns About State of SDG 2

13 October 2017: The 44th session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 44) raised concerns that world is not on track towards achieving SDG 2 and other targets of the 2030 Agenda relating to food security and nutrition. Delegates also endorsed recommendations on, among other issues: the rise of global hunger as result of conflict; food systems and nutrition; sustainable forestry for food security and nutrition (FSN); women empowerment in the context of FSN; and urbanization, rural transformation and FSN. Las2017 Adopts Warsaw Integrated Programme of Work 2018-2021

12 October 2017: The joint 75th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry and the 39th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization;s European Forestry Commission convened in Warsaw, Poland, under the title, ‘Las2017’, with “las” meaning forest in Polish. During an opening High-Level meeting, speakers highlighted interconnections among efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat the degradation of water quality, forests and biodiversity.
