UNEA-3 Adopts 11 Resolutions and a Ministerial Declaration

December 2017: During its closing plenary, the third session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-3) adopted 11 resolutions submitted by Member States. Delegates also adopted, by consensus, a negotiated Ministerial Declaration, through which they agreed to address the pollution of air, land and soil, freshwater, and oceans. More.

Ozone Meeting Reaches Agreement on Energy Efficiency

November 2017: The 29th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 29) adopted substantive decisions on essential-use exemptions and critical-use exemptions, future availability of halons, and energy efficiency, among other topics. MOP 29 met alongside the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (COP 11). More.

COP 23 Adopts Decisions on Adaptation Fund, Gender, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities

November 2017: The UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, brought together over 16,000 participants and adopted 31 decisions that: provide guidance on the completion of the Paris Agreement work programme; launch the Talanoa Dialogue (the Fijian name for the 2018 facilitative dialogue); give prominence to pre-2020 implementation and ambition, under the ‘Fiji Momentum for Implementation;’ operationalize the local communities and indigenous peoples platform; establish a gender action plan; decide that the Adaptation Fund shall serve the Paris Agreement subject to decisions to be taken at CMA 1-3; take work forward on long-term finance; and give guidance to the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts (WIM). More.

CMS COP12 Concludes, Lists Lions, Chimps, Giraffe and Leopards

October 2017: The twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP12) to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) concluded with the adoption of 54 resolutions and a declaration on the links between sustainable development and migratory wildlife, including the adoption of the African Elephant Action Plan. Over 1,000 participants attended the week-long event, which met under the theme, ‘Their Future is Our Future: Sustainable Development for Wildlife and People.’ More.
