Conference Develops HLPF 2018 Input for SDG 15.2

February 2018: The International Conference on “Working across Sectors to Halt Deforestation and Increase Forest Area - from Aspiration to Action” discussed the challenges of halting and reversing deforestation, and explored ways to accelerate progress towards achieving SDG target 15.2 on halting deforestation by 2020, and Target 1.1 of the UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 (UNSPF), which calls for reversing the loss of forest cover and increasing forest areas by 3% worldwide by 2030. A Co-Chairs’ summary of discussions and key messages and proposals for action will be forwarded to the 2018 session of the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) through the thirteenth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF). SDSN Switzerland Launch Discusses SDG Catalysts

February 2018: The 25th Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was recently launched in Switzerland. Participants at the launch event discussed the role of SDSN as a tool to build bridges and create solutions, and Switzerland’s opportunities and responsibilities for a sustainable world. Participants also identified the need to, inter alia: find new ways to accelerate transformation; adopt higher standards when it comes to personal finance, including investments; update the regulatory framework; and be more transparent in finance. WUF9 Promotes Implementation of New Urban Agenda, SDG 11

February 2018: The World Urban Forum (WUF) convened for the first time since countries adopted the New Urban Agenda (NUA) in Quito, Ecuador, in 2016. WUF’s ninth session focused on approaches and examples of good practice toward sustainability and inclusivity, under its overarching theme of ‘Cities 2030: Cities for All’. Many speakers called for aligning NUA monitoring and reporting with the follow-up and review process for the urban-related SDGs, in particular SDG 11 on sustainable cities. More.

UN-Water Members and Partners Discuss Baselines for SDG 6 Indicators, Awareness Raising

February 2018: During the 28th UN-Water meeting, UN-Water Members and Partners discussed upcoming high-level events and report launches related to water and sanitation policy and practice, including implementation of SDG 6. At the conclusion of the meeting, a group of observing UN Member States stressed the importance of strategically coordinating and aligning the efforts of UN-Water and its Members with the 2030 Agenda and the reform of the UN development system, including through coordination at the country level.
