IPBES Plenary Approves Regional and Land Degradation Assessments

24 March 2018: The sixth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES-6) approved the summaries for policy makers and the report chapters of four regional assessments, as well as a thematic one on land degradation and restoration. The assessments confirm that continued biodiversity decline seriously jeopardizes the chances of any region to meet the SDGs, and highlight existing policy options that can reverse the trend. More.

IPCC 47 Establishes Task Groups on Organization of Future Work, Gender

16 March 2018: The 47th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 47) adopted a number of decisions, including on the establishment of tasks groups on gender and on the organization of the Panel’s future work in light of the global stocktake under the Paris Agreement on climate change. 15 March 2018: The Second Meeting of the Intersessional Process for Considering the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste Beyond 2020 discussed elements of a possible future framework on chemicals and waste, including: vision; policy principles; objectives and milestones; implementation arrangements; governance; and high-level political commitment. Conference Agrees Research Agenda for Climate Change Impacts on Cities

7 March 2018: The Cities and Climate Change Science Conference (CitiesIPCC Conference) agreed to a global research agenda to better understand the impacts of climate change on cities and the critical role local authorities play in addressing the climate challenge. The conference also focused on implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, the SDGs, the New Urban Agenda and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, all of which require cities for successful sustainable development plans to adapt and respond to climate change.
