Global Symposium Discusses Solutions to Soil Pollution

May 2018: The proceedings of the Global Symposium on Soil Pollution, which was co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and its Global Soil Partnership and Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, UN Environment, the Secretariats of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, and the World Health Organization, will inform the development of an outcome document titled, ‘Be the Solution to Soil Pollution’. BBNJ Meeting Agrees Organizational Matters, Discusses Zero Draft Preparation

April 2018: Delegates recently met to discuss preparations for the Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction. The organizational meeting discussed the process for preparing a zero draft of the instrument, agreed on rules of procedure, and established a bureau and credential committee, among other decisions. SOI Dialogue Outcome Supports Cross-Sectoral Collaboration

April 2018: The second meeting of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) Global Dialogue with Regional Seas Organizations and Regional Fishery Bodies discussed ways and means to accelerate national and regional efforts to achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the SDGs related to marine biodiversity. Regional Forum Promotes 3Rs, Resource Efficiency to Achieve Multiple SDGs

April 2018: The Eighth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific examined how using the 3Rs (reducing, reusing and recycling) can help achieve waste-related targets under SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), as well as other SDGs, including on health, water, land, climate, oceans and sustainable cities. Its outcomes will serve as a contribution to the 2018 session of the UN High-level Political Forum (HLPF). More.


Asia-Pacific Forum Reviews Regional Progress on SDGs, Regional Roadmap

March 2018: The UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific convened the Fifth Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), during which participants reviewed progress on the sub-set of SDGs that will be reviewed in July 2018 at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The meeting also reviewed implementation of the Regional Roadmap for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which was adopted at the Fourth APFSD in 2017. More.
