|
 The sixth session of the intergovernmental negotiating committee on mercury (INC 6) will be held at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand, from 3-7 November 2014. Regional consultations will be held on 2 November.
INC 6 will prepare for the entry into force of the Minamata Convention on Mercury and also address issues that will be decided upon by the Conference of Parties at its first meeting. Issues under consideration will include, inter alia: importing mercury; registering exemptions; reporting and monitoring; rules of procedure and financial rules for the COP; guidance and assistance to countries with artisanal small-scale gold mining; storage, wastes and management of contaminated sites; and operation of the financial mechanism.
IISD RS, through its Earth Negotiations Bulletin, will provide daily digital coverage, daily reports, and a summary and analysis after the close of the meeting. Kindly return to this site on Monday, 3 November 2014, for daily coverage of INC 6.
