Delegation from Kyrgzstan celebrates at the World Mountain Forum 2016 following the announcement that Central Asia will host the 2018 Forum
The 4th World Mountain Forum (WMF) will convene under the theme, ‘Mountains in a Changing World Strengthening Partnerships and Pathways towards a Thriving Mountain Future.’ The forum will strive to identify and develop solutions for mountain areas globally.
With a special focus on the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, the Forum will address the overarching theme of sustainable mountain development (SMD) in the context of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement on climate change and other key global and regional processes. The discussions will be structured around four sub-themes: climate change, water and energy; poverty, food systems and agrobiodiversity; resilience and transformation within mountain socio-ecological systems; and investing in mountains securing the future.
WMF 2018 will also provide an opportunity to: build and strengthen innovative partnerships to advance the SMD agenda; explore investment opportunities and challenges for mountain areas; collect and share best practices and innovative solutions, both regionally and globally; and strengthen initiatives to form and strengthen regional mountain alliances.
The Youth Mountain Forum, a pre-conference event co-organized by the University of Central Asia UNICEF Kyrgyzstan, will take place on 22 October 2018.
WMF 2018 is hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support from the Government of Switzerland, the University of Central Asia, and the Aga Khan Foundation.
