On Wednesday, delegates to the sixteenth meeting of the UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (Consultative Process or ICP-16) continued consideration of this year’s topic: oceans and sustainable development: integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development, namely, environmental, social and economic.

In the morning, delegates heard five presentations on “opportunities for, and challenges to, the enhanced integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development in relation to oceans” from: Rémi Parmentier, Global Ocean Commission; Biliana Cicin-Sain, Global Ocean Forum; Helena Motta, Worldwide Fund for Nature; Vasco Becker-Weinberg, Secretariat of State of the Seas, Portugal; and Silvia Velo, Ministry of Land and Resources, Italy.

In the afternoon, delegates heard five presentations on the same topic from: Kwame Koranteng, FAO; Julian Barbière, International Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO; Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted, WorldFish; and Nicole Glineur, Global Environment Facility.
