The eighteenth meeting of the UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea will take place from 15-19 May 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The meeting will convene under the theme “The Effects of Climate Change on Oceans.”

Following a general exchange of views, the meeting will focus on two discussion panel segments on the effects of climate change on oceans. Segment one will consider environmental, social and economic implications. Segment two will discuss cooperation and coordination: current actions and opportunities for further enhancement.

Following the discussions, a Co-Chairs’ summary of issues and ideas raised and discussed will be produced as an outcome document, including issues that could benefit from attention in the future work of the General Assembly.
