Our Ocean Conference 2015

Our Ocean Conference 2015 The Second Our Ocean Conference will convene in Valparaiso, Chile, from 5-6 October 2015. The Conference aims to promote voluntary governmental and institutional commitments to care for the ocean. The inaugural Our Ocean Conference, held in June 2015 in Washington, DC, the US, resulted in more than US$800 million in government and private sector commitments to conserve and protect the ocean and its resources. Participants are expected to provide updates on commitments made at the inaugural conference while also making new commitments.

The Second Our Oceans Conference will discuss solutions to topics such as illegal fishing, marine plastic pollution and ocean acidification and climate change. The Conference will also encourage the creation of marine protected areas (MPAs) and share best practices from coastal communities on protecting and managing their coasts.

Over 400 political, academic and civil society figures, including the US Secretary of State and Prince Albert of Monaco, are expected to participate in the Conference.

The Government of Chile and US Department of State are organizing the conference in collaboration with other partners.
