Highlights for Tuesday, 9 November 2010
UNEP

The preparatory segment of MOP-22 convened for its second day in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, 9 November 2010.

In the morning, delegates considered the special situation of Haiti and compliance and reporting issues. The co-chairs also led delegates through a review of the agenda and decisions to be forwarded to the high-level segment.

Plenary was adjourned mid-morning to allow contact groups on QPS, ODS destruction, the ToR for the evaluation of the financial mechanism, as well as the Budget Committee to convene throughout the day.

Plenary reconvened in the evening and heard updates from contact and informal groups.

Climate Change Policy & Practice

Morning Plenary
Tom Land, US, discussed the draft decision on the special situation of Haiti.

Alberto Moral Gonzalez, EU, reported on consultations held with concerned parties on the treatment of stockpiles of ODS relative to compliance.


Contact Groups
David Omotosho, Nigeria, and Paul Krajnik, Austria, co-chaired a closed contact group on the terms of reference for the evaluation of the financial mechanism and replenishment of the MLF.

ODS destruction contact group Co-Chairs Annie Gabriel, Australia, and Javier Ernesto Camargo Cubillos, Colombia, during a discussion on the need for criteria to verify destruction of ODS.

Robyn Washbourne, New Zealand, co-chaired the contact group on QPS uses of methyl bromide. 
Tri Widayati, Indonesia, co-chaired the contact group on QPS uses of methyl bromide. 
In the Budget Committee, Ives Enrique Gómez Salas, Mexico, discussed upgrading the post of Executive Secretary to the level of Assistant Secretary General.

Evening Plenary
Co-Chair Fresnel Díaz, Venezuela, informed delegates that more time would be allocated to allow contact groups to finish their work.
Paul Krajnik, Austria, summarised discussion of the contact group on the financial mechanism.
