Highlights from Friday, 16 April 2004

On Friday, 16 April, during informal consultations, delegates completed a first reading of the Strategy Document, discussing sections on trade, sustainable capacity development and education, sustainable production and consumption, national enabling environment, health, knowledge management for decision making, culture, implementation, access to financial resources, and monitoring and evaluation. Following this, delegates considered the way forward. Facilitator MacKay recommended, and delegates agreed, that informal consultations be held on 28 and 29 August in Mauritius prior to the International Meeting. He also proposed the convening of informal informals in New York, possibly in May, to move discussions forward, and reported that the Secretariat would produce a compilation text, which would be the basis for negotiations during the informal informals. This was then agreed to during the formal meeting of the Preparatory Meeting.
