Friday, 14 January

Delegates met throughout the day in plenary to hear statements by high-level representatives on the comprehensive review of the implementation of the BPOA. A High-Level Round Table on capacity building convened in the morning, and the SIDS University Consortium was launched in the afternoon. Delegates convened for the IM's closing plenary in the evening to adopt the final outcomes of the meeting. The IM was gaveled to a close at 7:50 pm.

Ministerial Round Table: Building capacity in SIDS

Building capacity in SIDS, was co-chaired by Kessai Note, President of the Marshall Islands and Jacob Zuma, Deputy President of South Africa, and moderated by Leonard Good, GEF CEO and Chairman

Discussions focused on measures to support SIDS capacity-building programmes, in particular how to: create the optimum opportunities for people to realise their potential; utilize regional cooperation mechanisms; pool resources; and engage communities in implementation.
