Highlights for Friday, 24 September 2010

UN Member States convened at UN Headquarters on Friday, 24 September, for the first day of the High-Level Review Meeting on the Implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened the meeting, stressing the importance of the review process as a means of examining gaps in achieving the Mauritius Strategy's sustainable development goals. Participants then heard statements from heads of state and ministers. In the afternoon delegates convened for the first of two roundtables, which convened under the theme: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Strengthening Resilience of Small Island Developing States.
