World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders - Local Voices for a Better World and
5th United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Congress

United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is organizing the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders under the theme ‘Local Voices for a Better World.’ Convening back-to-back with the 3rd UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the Summit aims to define the Key Recommendations of Local and Regional Governments to Habitat III.

The Summit, which also marks the 5th UCLG World Congress, will be structured around three “metro lines,” which will meet physically, digitally and symbolically at the Network Hub: UCLG Congress (Line 1); Policy and International Advocacy (Line 2); and Networking (Line 3).

Following Line 1, UCLG members will elect a new Presidency for 2016-2019 and discuss the organization’s new strategic priorities. On Line 2, all Summit participants will have the opportunity to define and promote the Global Agenda of Local and Regional Governments for the 21st Century, as well as UCLG’s work beyond Habitat III. Line 3 is geared toward active networkers, with field visits, a poster session, urban labs and a flashmob, among other activities.

The UCLG Congress will include meetings of the Executive Bureau, World Council, General Assembly, Committees and Working Groups, and Sections Caucus, as well as Statutory Meetings. With over 3,000 locally elected leaders and practitioners in attendance, the Summit is expected to be the largest global gathering of mayors, councilors, local governments and other UCLG partners.
