First Intersessional Meeting of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD)

As called for at the first PrepCom of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, also called Rio+20), the first of three intersessional meetings opened on Monday, 10 January 2011, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The aim of this first intersessional meeting is to discuss the role of UNCSD in securing renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and address new and emerging challenges. The meeting will also address the role of UNCSD with regard to the following themes: green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and institutional framework for sustainable development.
