The World Congress convened on Tuesday at the Portobello Resort in Mangaratiba, Brazil. Participants met in both plenary and parallel sessions. Morning sessions focused on the future of environmental law and the opportunities and emerging issues that lie in store. One of the sessions addressed emerging developments and principles in environmental law, examining country examples of improved legal procedures to promote environmental rights. The other session examined the role of law in addressing new and emerging environmental sustainability issues, focusing on enforcement efforts to redress and punish environmental crime. Over lunch, participants engaged in discussions on the contributions by regional groups to the World Congress’ outcome document. In the afternoon and evening, participants convened in Plenary sessions to hear inputs from the lunchtime discussions and general comments on finalizing the text of the outcome document.
