The Negotiation of the Summary for Policy Makers (SPM) of the sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6), will take place on 21-24 January 2019 at UNEP headquarters, in Nairobi, Kenya. During this four-day meeting Member States will negotiate and adopt the GEO-6 SPM, as mandated by the first session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) (UNEP/EA.1/Res.4 on Science Policy Interface). Thereafter, the translated SPM and the GEO-6 assessment report will be presented for consideration and possible endorsement by the UN Environment Assembly during its fourth session, which will be held on 11-15 March 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Since 1997, UNEP has produced five GEO reports, which are peer-reviewed assessments consisting of a report, and an SPM. The SPM is intended to accurately reflect the key policy messages arising from the findings of the assessment. Each GEO provides analysis of environmental state and trends at the global, regional and sub regional scales, describe plausible outlooks, and formulate policy options.
IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB+ Meeting Coverage, has provided daily web coverage, daily reports, and a summary report from the Negotiation of the GEO-6 Summary for Policy Makers, which is available in HTML and PDF.
