‘Forest Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Day’ took place on the last day of the Rio Conventions Pavilion at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity COP14 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on 27 November. The event was organized by the Korea Forest Service of the Republic of Korea, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, the Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration, and the Society for Ecological Restoration.

During presentations and panel discussions, participants addressed: the need for accelerated action on forest landscape and ecosystem restoration to meet global targets; global-scale assessments for prioritizing areas for restoration; progress under the CBD’s Short-term Action Plan for Ecosystem Restoration and FERI’s in-country projects; the importance of cooperation and collaboration and the role of global partnerships on restoration actions; case studies from Madagascar, Kenya, Rwanda, Guinea, and the Amazon region; and financing opportunities and examples, including through the GEF-7 cross-cutting “Impact Programs.”
