On Saturday, 12 November 2016, the event “Incorporating Blue Carbon into Nationally Determined Contributions Under the Paris Agreement” took place at the Marrakech Climate Conference (COP22).

This video highlights the importance of blue carbon ecosystems for adaptation and resilience, and their potential to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by storing carbon. A new initiative, the International Blue Carbon Partnership, is working to strengthen protection for tidal marsh, mangrove, and sea grass ecosystems by encouraging countries to incorporate blue carbon measures as they report progress on reducing emissions under the Paris Climate Agreement. Pilot conservation projects using carbon financing offer a potential roadmap.

Produced by Teya Penniman and filmed/edited by Nemo Allen.
