Blended finance is a key tool for mobilizing and scaling up private capital to tackle environmental crises.

Initially focusing on clean energy and energy efficiency, the Global Environment Facility is increasingly targeting new “frontier” areas such as land degradation, biodiversity and fisheries, where private sector investment is scarce.
