QATAR:
The representative of Qatar said that despite the
complexity of sustainable development, there is hope that this
objective will be achieved. There is greater world-wide attention
to sustainable development and proof can be found in the
environmental conventions and protocols that have entered into
force and the negotiations currently underway. He highlighted the
awareness in Qatar on environmental issues since the Gulf War and
Qatar is now considering acceding to a number of environmental
conventions. With regard to the INCD, he noted that good progress
has been made so far and he hopes that the Committee will carry out
its mandate.
