OMAN:
The delegate from Oman stressed the interrelationship
between environment and development and the fact that the
achievement of development goals should not be at the expense of
the environment and environmental protection should not hinder
development. Environmental protection is an international
necessity. All States and intergovernmental organizations should
take the necessary steps to preserve the marine environment. There
is a need for greater awareness campaigns to educate the public
through the media about the problems facing the marine environment.
Oman is carrying out programmes and legislation to protect the
environment, including a full integrated programme on environmental
protection for coastal areas and the protection of endangered
species.
