A SUMMARY OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL SESSION OF THE INC FOR THE ELABORATION OF AN INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION

The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the elaboration of an international convention to combat desertification in those countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification, particularly in Africa (INC-D), opened its organizational session on Tuesday afternoon, 26 January 1993. This Committee was established by UN Resolution 47/188, adopted in December 1992 by the 47th session of the UN General Assembly. During the four-day session, the INC adopted its rules of procedure and schedule of meetings, elected its officers, established two working groups and elected some of the working groups' officers, agreed upon the agenda for its first substantive meeting, and discussed extrabudgetary funds.
