CASE STUDIES:

The African case studies are due for completion well before the January session. They are being carried out in Tunisia, Mali, Uganda and Botswana. All four are looking at the specific needs as well as ongoing activities undertaken by the local populations to combat desertification. The studies are also assessing the national level policies that should be developed and the specific areas of support that would be required from the international community. The Secretariat also expects the Asian and Latin American case studies to be completed before the January session. All of the case studies will be brought to the attention of national desertification workshops to help contribute greater coherence to the process of policy formulation.
