ARTICLE 1 BIS -- SCOPE OF THE CONVENTION:

Algeria, on behalf of the G-77 and China, proposed new text for this article. The language was taken from the Biodiversity Convention, and many delegates questioned its relevance to this Convention. The proposal was eventually dropped and this article no longer appears in the Convention.
