The representative said that a concerted response of all actors at the national and international levels is needed to implement the Convention. One of the significant aspects of the Convention lies in its addressing food security and other socio-economic causes of desertification. The momentum created by the adoption of the Convention must be sustained. NGOs and local populations must be involved in the formulation of national action plans. He stressed the importance of new and additional resources and expressed hope that the global mechanism will help mobilize these resources.
