The representative underscored the continued relevance of international efforts to combat desertification and drought. The most significant accomplishment of the INCD is the international attention that has been mobilized around desertification. The negotiations have linked those affected with desertification with donors, UN agencies, IGOs and NGOs and have laid the foundation for future global partnership arrangements. He called on the international community to provide the necessary financial and technological assistance.
