PHILIPPINES:

The representative said that subregional, regional and international collaboration is essential to mitigate the effects of drought. Countries in South Asia suffering from drought should have been considered as affected countries under the Convention. The prevention of drought helps prevent land degradation and desertification. The Philippines will pursue this issue at the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties. The Philippines joined the Convention in the hope that drought-affected countries in South Asia will not be left out.
