Herman Gallegos said that the US has identified US$500 million in current or planned projects that can be utilized to support the Convention. African countries have to decide how they will use the Convention to meet their own anti- desertification plans and programmes. He called for reducing the January meeting of the INCD to one week, cancelling the May meeting and postponing a decision on meetings in 1996 until the January session. The US believes that the secretariat should not assume the burden of reviewing preparation of action programmes and other activities under the urgent action resolution.
