Ministre de l'Environnement Michel Barnier emphasized that the CSD must let the press and the public know that these meetings are doing some good and that this meeting should issue an alert. He called for better functioning of existing institutions and mentioned the negotiations towards a convention on desertification. He said that France would host a meeting in 1994 on water quality and public health in the most underprivileged areas. He announced that France was setting up a national CSD and suggested that the Chairs of other national CSDs meet to exchange experiences.
