SECRETARIAT AND BUREAU ACTIVITIES:

During the intersessional period the CSD Secretariat, within the Department of Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development, will be busy as it finally receives the necessary resources and personnel to service the CSD. Among its activities will be to work with CSD Chair Razali and his Bureau to discuss the necessary arrangements for the intersessional period. The Secretariat will also be compiling the specific details of the proposed country-hosted intersessional meetings, as well as making the necessary preparations for the ad hoc open-ended intersessional working groups on technology and finance.

The Commission requested that numerous reports be prepared by the Secretariat in the coming months. These include: an annual overview report on progress made in the implementation of Agenda 21; thematic reports, corresponding to the Agenda 21 sectoral clusters to be included on the agenda for the 1994 session: Health, human settlements and freshwater (Chapters 6, 7, 18 and 21); and Toxic chemicals and hazardous wastes (Chapters 19, 20 and 22); corresponding reports on the activities of IGOs within and outside the UN system; a report on financial flows and mechanisms to implement Agenda 21; and a progress report on the implementation of paragraphs 34.15, 34.16, 34.17 and 34.26 of Agenda 21 on technology transfer and facilitating such implementation.
