Iceland
, on behalf of the Nordic countries, reminded
delegates that the success of the CSD will not only depend upon the
CSD itself but the active work of each and every country in
implementing the results of UNCED. Innovative financing should
become a central strategic theme of the upcoming CSD working group
meeting on finance. Other issues of importance are the growing
emphasis on the development and transfer of environmentally sound
technologies, improving the link between technology transfer and
capacity building, and increased South-South cooperation for
improving the adaptation of imported technologies and enhancing the
use and development of indigenous, local and traditional knowledge.
Addressing the interface of trade, environment and development is
yet another issue of international significance.
