IN THE CORRIDORS

While delegates refer to the importance of the role of women in sustainable development in their general statements, there are few references to women in the documentation. NGOs and some delegates have taken note of this and are working to ensure that the CSD's decisions accurately reflect the role of women in sustainable development. Women were only mentioned in the draft decision on human settlements when urging the international community to explore joint programming options. In the draft on health, women were only mentioned as a vulnerable group that needed to be represented in national decision-making. Norway, Senegal and INSTRAW have pointed out that this is insufficient. Women are on the agenda of the High-Level Segment, however, one delegate noted that ministers are not the only ones who have to recognize the important role of women.
