ECOSOC:

At its meeting in New York from 27 June - 29 July 1994, the Economic and Social Council will review the report of the CSD. It is also possible that ECOSOC will address the issue of changing the timing of the elections of the CSD Bureau. A number of governments support rescheduling the elections from the beginning of the annual CSD session to the conclusion of the session. This way the Bureau can participate in the intersessional activities in preparation for the next CSD session and preside over that session before turning over the reigns to the next Bureau. Some developing countries are concerned, however, that this change would give Germany a second session as CSD Chair. If this is to take place, ECOSOC will need to change the CSD's rules of procedure or adopt a resolution.
