BIOTECHNOLOGY

UNIDO, the task manager for Chapter 16 of Agenda 21, said that they convened inter-agency consultations in September 1994 to gather information on actions moving towards the goals of this chapter. There have been a number of meetings of experts of governments, regional groups and at the global level relating to biotechnology and sustainable development. There have been positive developments in new initiatives and interagency cooperation since UNCED on biotechnology, in addition to new partnerships between private and public sectors. The Netherlands and the UK announced that they are co-hosting a meeting on biotechnology in January 1995 (see Things To Look For).
