SUMMARY OF THE SECOND SUBSTANTIVE SESSION OF THE ICPD PREPARATORY COMMITTEE

The second session of the Preparatory Committee for the International Conference on Population and Development was gavelled to a close on Friday, 21 May 1993 by the Chair, Dr. Fred Sai of Ghana. After two weeks of debate involving government delegates, scores of NGOs and dozens of representatives from UN agencies and intergovernmental organizations, progress had been made on the elaboration of the structure and the substantive elements of the eventual document to be adopted in Cairo during September 1994.
