FIJI:
Brian Singh stressed the importance of the
following: sustained economic growth; greater harmony among
population, resources, environment and development; balanced
representation of both sexes in population programmes and
decision-making; recognition of the distinct perspective of
indigenous peoples; improved access to primary health care;
addressing the economic, trade and development cooperation
policies of countries of origin and destination on international
migration; ensuring the availability of appropriately-trained
personnel for the formulation, implementation and monitoring of
population programmes; and putting in place mechanisms for
assessing progress made in achieving the goals and objectives of
the action programme.
