V. FRESHWATER RESOURCES:

The importance of freshwater resources for SIDS and the limits they can set to sustainable development was highlighted. These resources need to be managed in a sustainable manner through efficient technologies for the catchment, production, conservation and delivery of freshwater. Regional cooperation in training and research should be enhanced to develop technical assistance and linked water resource databases for relevant decision-making tools, including forecasting models for water management planning and utilization. Climate change and its adverse impacts on freshwater resources is an element that needs to be taken into consideration. This part of the document gave rise to little debate and the text was left unbracketed.
