IX. BIODIVERSITY RESOURCES:

This chapter emphasizes the importance of biodiversity, and particularly of marine and coastal species, to SIDS. The sustainable management of these resources requires greater awareness and education, ratification and implementation of relevant international and regional conventions, establishment of buffer stocks and gene banks for reintroduction into the environment, and continued studies and research on these resources. The importance of support by local communities is also emphasized. There was no disagreement on any of the sections in this chapters.
