48TH SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY:

The next session of the General Assembly is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 21 September 1993. The provisional agenda for the session (A/48/150) lists 157 items. Consideration of the Conference on the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States is item 100(c), together with the reports of the INC for the Desertification Convention and the Conference on Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks. Since the SIDS Conference is part of the implementation of decisions and recommendations of UNCED, its report is expected to be referred to the Second Committee of the General Assembly.

The General Assembly will have to endorse: the report of the Organizational Session and the Preparatory Committee; the draft rules of procedure; the participation of associate members of Regional Commissions; the dates of the Conference (25 April - 6 May 1994); and the question of other intersessional work, including another PrepCom session.
