CANADA:

As one of the original signatories and early ratifiers of the Convention, Canada stated that a national biodiversity strategy will soon be circulated for broad public review. Canada encouraged each country to tailor its strategy to meet its own needs and stated that, although country studies may be an important first step, they need not be prerequisites for the development of national strategies. In turn, national strategies, however effective, need not delay implementation of the Convention. To this end, Canada urged UNEP and other potential funders to facilitate the carrying out of country studies.
