A BRIEF ANALYSIS OF PREPCOM III

The World Summit for Social Development represents the first time in history that Heads of State or Government will gather to collectively address the problems of poverty, unemployment and social disintegration. In preparation for this event, the WSSD PrepCom met three times for only six weeks over a 12-month period to negotiate the draft Declaration and Programme of Action for the Summit. Now that the preparatory process is complete, it is possible to evaluate the work of the PrepCom, the treatment of some of the major issues and the challenges that remain for Copenhagen and beyond.
