The Swedish representative said that the Rio Conference had clearly confirmed the interdependence between human settlements and the natural environment. As the major consumers of the planet's natural resources, the industrialized countries have special responsibilities in the implementation of the decisions of this Conference, and they must be the pioneers in the search for more sustainable societies.
