WHO conference on health and climateThe World Health Organization (WHO) Conference on Health and Climate is being convened in recognition of the threats posed by climate change to health and the urgent need for the health community, in coordination with others, to take the lead in advancing a more concrete and systematic approach to implementing health protection.

The conference aims to bring together the health and sustainable development community to mutually reinforce health and climate policy, programme and enhance climate resilient health systems, and support health-promoting climate change mitigation policies. It will serve as a catalyst for action in addressing the impacts of climate change on health.

The WHO Conference on Health and Climate will focus on two specific thematic areas: strengthening health system resilience to climate risks; and promoting health while mitigating climate change. It will conclude with recommendations on policy options to maximize health benefits; and the health sector’s contributions towards the conference objectives.

IISD RS will provide daily digital coverage and a summary report from this conference. Kindly return to this site on Wednesday, 27 August 2014, for more information.
