On Wednesday morning, participants in the Anglophone Africa Subregional Workshop met in plenary to hear presentations reviewing the elements of a protected area system master plan, and outlining national implementation support partnerships (NISPs) and the UNDP/GEF Early Action Grant project application process. Participants then studied the various categories under which applications could be made and reported back about which of the categories matched their needs. For the remainder of the morning, work continued in country groups on finalizing country reports and consolidating work from the previous two days on ecological gap assessment, management effectiveness and sustainable finance planning. Participants also prepared draft recommendations with a view to forwarding them to the second meeting of Ad Hoc Open Ended Working Group on protected areas (OEWG) and CBD COP-9.

In the afternoon, participants heard reports from the five country groups on their morning's work. They structured their reports according to number of factors, including status of their countries' progress, foreseen obstacles and challenges, next steps and types of support required. The Workshop participants then spent the remainder of the day in plenary discussions to consolidate the recommendations, organizing them under five headings: capacity building and technical transfer; institutional coordination; regional integration; financial support; and community participation.
