The Forum brought together stakeholders from across the globe to discuss their shared experiences and seek creative solutions on issues related to the health and security of people and wildlife, the wild meat crisis, and the unsustainable use of wildlife.
2nd Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP2)
Billed as a “working COP,” delegates came prepared to engage with technical issues to further the implementation of the Convention. Delegates were able to agree on permanent arrangements for a stand-alone Secretariat, based in Geneva.
Rio Conventions Pavilion at CBD COP 14
The Pavilion’s programme focused on the following themes: sustainable infrastructure; Africa’s ecological futures; scenarios for transformative change; rethinking biodiversity governance; protected areas (PAs); building capacity beyond 2020; the role of the private sector in biodiversity conservation; agriculture and biodiversity; mainstreaming of biodiversity for ecosystem and human health co-benefits; nature-based solutions for climate change; and forest landscape and ecosystem restoration
Coverage of Selected Side Events at the 2018 UN Biodiversity Conference
This side event aimed to catalyze ideas on the role of regional cooperation in the implementation of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and in shaping the post-2020 biodiversity agenda. Knowledge generated from the side event served to mobilize human, technical and financial resources towards the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework.
2018 UN Biodiversity Conference
The Conference adopted a number of decisions on a series of strategic, administrative, financial, and ecosystem-related issues of relevance to the implementation of the Convention and its Protocols. These included 37 decisions under the CBD COP; 16 decisions under the Cartagena Protocol COP/MOP; and 16 decisions under the Nagoya Protocol COP/MOP.
30th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer
MOP 30 adopted 21 decisions on: issues important to the January 2019 entry into force of the Kigali Amendment on Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), including data reporting issues, including timeline and revised reporting forms, ways to report mixtures and blends, and setting global warming potential (GWP) values for HCFC-123, HCFC-124, HCFC-141, and HCFC-142
2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED)
Key outcomes and outputs of the meeting included approval of the Council’s 2019 Workplan by the Executive Committee, which highlights gender mainstreaming in CCICED’s work; consideration of the Council’s 2018 draft policy recommendations for the government of China; green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt; a roundtable discussion on “Low-Carbon and Circular Economy for Green Development”, and more
World Mountain Forum (WMF) 2018
Participants shaped the conference outcome document ‘A Call for Mountains,’ and convened in sessions exploring innovative partnerships and best practices in mobilization and financing for the sustainable mountain development agenda.
