Highlights for Monday, 6 April 2009

Delegates to the seventh meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) met in brief morning and afternoon plenary sessions to hear reports from the contact groups. Contact groups on objective and scope of the regime, and on compliance met throughout the day and into the late evening.

Side Event: Benefit Sharing Under ABS, Options and Elaborations
 

 
The event elaborated on principles and issues relevant to ''benefit sharing'' within ABS. By focusing on a typical bioprospecting scheme from Access to End-Product, discussions centered on various scenarios that can be anticipated in the process and the need for a proportional, efficient and equitable approach to devise appropriate benefits.
