Third Intersessional Meeting of the Contact Group of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food &  Agriculture

Briefing note for Thursday, 31 August 2000

On Thursday, 31 August 2000, the Third Inter-sessional Contact Group met in two sessions to review progress made throughout the week and to discuss the steps necessary to conclude the revision of the International Undertaking. Delegates stressed that significant progress had been made and urged a rapid completion of the negotiations. 

A final Extraordinary Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is tentatively scheduled for 9-20 October 2000. The two week meeting will use three parallel negotiating streams (two working groups and the Chair's Contact Group), although it still pends securing substantial external funding.
