IISD Reporting Services - Rotterdam Convention

On Wednesday, the twelfth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC-12) of the Rotterdam Convention Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade opened. William Murray, Co-Executive Secretary of the Rotterdam Convention, noted that the Secretariat had received notifications of final regulatory action for over 200 chemicals, which provide a wealth of scientific information that parties could use to make national decisions.

Welcoming new members, CRC Chair Jürgen Helbig, Spain, outlined the agenda and organization of work for the meeting, which the Committee adopted. Throughout the day, the Committee considered technical work and established contact groups to consider Canada’s notification of final regulatory action for benzidine, and the notifications for atrazine. The contact groups met in the late afternoon and evening.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB Meeting Coverage, has provided daily web updates from CRC12 and a summary and analysis report from the meeting, which is available in HTML and PDF.
